Why pumps and panels are hard to ship
Pumps, generators, compressors, transformers, and electrical panels share a few traits that make traditional LTL either say no or make you regret hearing yes:

- They’re tall, and sometimes irregular. Panels ship on end or on custom stands. Pumps come with piping, motors, and attachments that don’t stack.
- They don’t like handling. Every terminal handoff is another chance to knock a control cabinet out of alignment or crack a housing.
Big LTL networks handle this freight through a hub-and-spoke system, which means forklifts, terminals, and multiple touches. That’s a lot of risk for a piece of equipment your next job is waiting on.
How partial flatbed fits
With partial flatbed, your pump or panel rides on shared open-deck space alongside other partial loads. You pay for the portion of the deck your freight uses, not for the whole trailer.
The sweet spot is roughly under ten feet of deck space and under about 10,000 pounds. A pump skid, a couple of panels, or a small generator lands right in that range. Open decks load from the side and top, so tall and irregular pieces that dry-van LTL won’t touch are routine here.
And because partial loads can dispatch direct from origin to destination, your freight skips the terminal shuffle. Fewer handoffs means less chance of damage and less sitting around waiting for the next leg.
Securement done right
Equipment gets chained at manufacturer-rated points, not wherever a strap happens to reach. Attachments like motors, control boxes, and loose piping get lowered and secured separately so nothing shifts in transit. The aggregate Working Load Limit of the tie-downs has to be at least half the cargo weight, and for dense equipment we plan for that up front.
